ABOUT US
BEAR HUGS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that welcomes to the U.S. the unwanted and stigmatized refugee children of any nationality by creating hand-made bears stitched with love and stuffed with compassion. Made by American children and adults, our simple-to-make bears bring the message of compassion and love for other children, regardless of their nationality, race, and religious beliefs.
We aim to welcome refugee children fleeing violence, war, destruction, and hate with a message of compassion and love. Our bears symbolize our unity and open arms to those who have lost everything and yet face the many challenges of integration to a new culture, learning a new language, and embracing a new life. Our goal is to give back a small piece of lost childhood and comfort.
For Groups and Classrooms
We encourage both classrooms and other groups to take part in our project. We provide informative and engaging volunteering sessions custom designed for a particular group's needs.
What Our Events Are Like:
At Bear Hugs, our volunteers create the bears in an assembly-line-like process that takes place at a group bear-making event. We believe the communal gathering of people working and enjoying time together brings a familial, close, and inspiring atmosphere that is the life-blood of Bear Hugs.
